Step 1: The freebie (aka lead maget)

First, your website should offer something for free—a helpful resource that your ideal client wants enough to opt in with their email address.

This could be a guide, a checklist, a quiz, etc. It should be something your target audience will find valuable and that will help you illustrate your subject matter expertise so you can connect with them on a business level.

For example, as a website designer, I offer a free Website Audit Checklist, a Blogging & SEO Guide for Beginners, and other freebies relevant to my services that will benefit my audience. I have these as pop ups, on my side bars, in my blogs, and on my Resources page for anyone to download totally free!

Step 2: The delivery of the freebie via email (email 1 of your nurturing sequence!)

Next, when someone opts in, they’re automatically added to your email sequence (a set of 5-7 emails timed out strategically). This is where the magic happens. It’s the, “Hey, remember me? I’m delivering on the promise I made to give you this helpful thing, and the best part is I have other resources that might help you too!”

Email 1 should be simple, delivering the freebie and introducing yourself (nothing more, no trying to sell).

After that, your full sequence of emails (emails 2-7) introduces who you are, showcases your expertise, shares stories and testimonials, answers FAQs, and invites them to take the next step—whether that’s booking a call, joining your program, or simply hitting reply.

Late in my sequences (around email 5), I even offer free 15-20 minute chats just to let people pick my brain about their websites and SEO. Entrepreneurship is hard, and it’s great to be there to help each other out even if someone doesn’t need what you’re offering!

Step 3: The nurturing and selling (emails 2-7)

And finally, that sequence does the selling for you. It nurtures, warms up your leads, and turns strangers into paying clients—all without relying on algorithm trends or spending hours creating content.
